Introduction

Shoton Festival (雪頓節) is one of the time-honoured festivals in Tibet, the roof of the world. Subscribed into China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List since 2006, it has been serving as an important cultural signature not only to Tibetan people but also to global travellers. With a thousand years of history, Shoton Festival has been deeply rooted in every generations of Tibetan people and it is certainly a precious opportunity to participate in this nationwide gala.

Our Tour Tibet: Shoton Festival Special 西藏行:雪頓節特別團 will bring you to see more than just turquoise and tranquil lakes and snow festooned mountains on this forbidden land. While stepping on the Everest Base Camp (珠峰大本營) and enjoy the spectacular view there, we also explore how Tibetans dedicated themselves into their religion, mostly Tibetan Buddhism and how Tibetan, the mother tongue of Tibetans is becoming a dying language nowadays. Hear from all sides of the Tibetan debate, you will get a comprehensive view on how religion, ethnic identity, cultural preservation and political conflicts are related to today’s Tibetan governance.
